The signing ceremony for Yalova Teknopark Inc. was held at the Yalova University Rectorate with broad participation from the press. The event was attended by the Governor of Yalova, Muammer Erol; Chairman of the Board of Yalova Machinery Specialized OIZ, Direnç Özdemir; Rector of Yalova University, Prof. Dr. Suat Cebeci; President of Yalova-Altınova Shipyard Entrepreneurs, Şükrü Fazıl Uzun; and President of the Yalova Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Tahsin Becan.
Delivering the opening speech, Yalova University Rector Prof. Dr. Suat Cebeci highlighted the advantages of Yalova’s location. He stated their goal of bringing education and technology to life within Yalova Teknopark through a robust University-Industry partnership.
Taking the floor after Rector Cebeci, Yalova Machinery Specialized OIZ Chairman Direnç Özdemir emphasized that Yalova would be the ultimate winner of this cooperation. Özdemir stated: "There is a core concept that is the norm for goods and services production in the 21st-century digital world: 'sustainability.' The pillars of sustainability are high technology, innovation, and green production.
The Technopark is an essential investment for these pillars and a vital part of our strategy to reach our goals. We are proud and happy to embark on this concrete path. In this sense, I would like to thank our Governor for his visionary leadership and our Rector for his responsible and constructive approach. A true 'Industry-University Cooperation Project' is emerging. The vision of Yalova and the vision of Yalova Machinery Specialized OIZ are perfectly aligned. We are pleased to see that everyone in Yalova—from political parties to administrative and local authorities—wants to transform the city into a center for high-value-added and green production."
In his speech, Özdemir mentioned that the Technopark would be built in two phases. The first phase will be constructed at the University location, while the production-oriented second phase will be built within the Yalova Machinery Specialized OIZ, where technology meets manufacturing. He also noted that Yalova Teknopark had already reached a 50% occupancy rate even before the groundbreaking ceremony.
Özdemir added: "I thank everyone who has supported this valuable investment serving our ideals. We have a long road ahead with Yalova University. We are building the Mechanical Engineering Department within the Yalova Machinery Specialized OIZ, and we are in talks with our Rector for other departments such as Mechatronics, Materials Science, and Automotive Engineering. Yalova will be the winner here."
